About The Competition
This Competition is an annual, free-to-enter Creative Writing Competition organized by MyRainbowBooks (MRB) Limited and E-GAPs Foundation to help develop children’s creative thinking and writing skills. It is open to children aged five to sixteen years who are resident in Nigeria, or of Nigerian origin. The themes for this year’s competition are: A Fun Day at School, The Enchanted Iroko Tree, Aunty Nene's Shekere, The Palm Wine Tapper, The Day I Saw My Imaginary Friend, The Missing Broom and Mama's Cowrie Shells.
The writing can be either a poem or a short story but must explore one or more of the above themes. The stories should be set in Nigeria, and if possible, showcase the Nigerian culture. The word limit for a short story is 1000 words, and the word limit for a poem is 250 words.
The competition opens for entries on December 15, 2022. The deadline for submission is the midnight of February 15, 2023. In each age category, primary and secondary schools can each make a group entry of no more than 20 different writings comprising either poems or short stories, or a combination of both. Prizes will be awarded to the best writings. The best poems and short stories will be published in the MRB Children’s Collection (Vol. 8) which will be available for purchase before the end of 2023.
